Should you build your own RADIUS server for home Wi-Fi? I decided to find out! In this home lab project, I set up **FreeRADIUS** with **daloRADIUS** for web-based management and integrated it with my Grandstream access points to explore enterprise Wi-Fi authentication. I'll demonstrate how individual user credentials work alongside MAC address filtering to control which devices can connect to the network. VLANs are a great way to segment a home network, but segmentation doesn't necessarily mean isolation. If you have separate Trusted, IoT, and Guest networks, are you sure those networks are actually prevented from communicating with each other? In this video, I put the network we've been building with Alta Labs to the test. A device on my Guest network is able to reach a device on my Trusted network—and then I show what happens when a firewall rule is used to control that traffic. The bigger lesson isn't just about Alta Labs. It's about understanding the difference between **segmenting your network** and **controlling the traffic between those segments**. If you've created VLANs in your home network because you want to protect your trusted devices from IoT or Guest devices, this is something you'll want to understand.
